I ordered a program that was a collection of comic books on disc. Example: every issue of Spiderman.

When I inserted the disc a pdf opened. On this pdf were buttons that broke down the collection by decade. 1960s, 1970s, etc.

When I pressed the buttons on this pdf I was taken to another pdf that had buttons that subdivided the collection further by individual year: 1960, 1961, etc.

Then each button linked to another pdf that had the cover of each individual comic book for that year: issue #1, #2, etc.

Finally when you clicked on the cover image, a pdf of that particular comic book would open up for you to read.

My question is how do they do this?

Thanks.
