Here is a substantial advance over my previous Text-behind-image PDF of the problem.pdf file attached to the "Can't search inside or copy from PDF" topic. For this one I created 300dpi bitmap images of all of the pages at once in one monolithic file by printing problem.pdf from Acrobat to my Microsoft Office Document Image Writer (time 5 seconds); this is an Acrobat-like program for digital image files that comes with Microsoft Office Professional (2003) and installs its "Writer" on your computer as an available printer. Because I really like PDFs, and don't much like MDI files, I then printed the problem.mdi digital image file to my 'Adobe PDF' printer, which is installed by Acrobat -- this converted problem.mdi back into a 57-page 300dpi bitmap PDF (time 12 seconds). I then ran Acrobat's Document > Paper Capture to OCR the images and create a text-behind-image fully searchable PDF of the original document (12 min 20s). The final problem.pdf is 4.3 MB (very good for 57 pages of image files) and is fully searchable. I've attached the first 4 pages of the final searchable PDF to this post.
