I am a teacher and I need to convert all of my paper files into PDF files. I bought a Canon Pixma all in one printer/scanner/fax. It has the option to scan a page on the ADF into PDF format.

When I do this the file sizes are huge. I scanned 10 pages and it was 4,683 KB. I got a study guide from a publisher that is 91 pages long and is 7,000 KB.

What am I doing wrong to make the files so large?

I don't know how to shrink them, any advice?
