One of our customers, has created a pdf in Quark and it cannot be opened:

Error message: "There was an error opening this document. There was a problem reading the document (109)"

Saved on a Mac from quark to PDF format.

There is also a text document after each pdf with the same name with _pdf.log added e.g. All on Fire ti_pdf.log containing:
