I am using Acrobat to hold/study textbooks. I start with jpg scans of each page and combine them into pdf "chapters" of these images. I then run OCR and highlight, underline and annotate atop the images. Often the original image becomes corrupted (beneath the highlighting which is unaffected) and reading becomes impossible. The pages can be repaired by replacing the image with the original jpg and re-recognizing the text to match the highlighting but it can number many pages and can reach the point where the file is so damaged it can't be salvaged ("insufficient data," etc.).
Example attached. I appreciate any responses.
