Please use PDF Tools freeware. It has many features >
Encrypt, Decrypt, Join Pdf files, Split Pdf files,and so on.
I have merged many pdf files together without any errors or merging problems. It is easy to split files also.
Further more, you can encrypt PDF file with 128 bit password protection, as well as decrypt it.
