Hello Gurus,

I have attached two pdfs. The first one, Magazine Ad, is an ad sent to us to be printed in our magazine. The second pdf, Printing Mystery, is a scanned copy of how the first pdf printed. As you will notice on the printed pdf, there are some blue and green lines that seem to pass through the text/image in the top 1/3 of the ad and the phone number is missing at the bottom of the ad. Unfortunately, we didn't catch this oversight on their first issue, but they did. It's funny how they were quick to point it out. They also mentioned that this error had happened to them once before at another publication. Now, they are demanding a free ad and unless we can prove that their pdf was somehow corrupt, we are inclined to give it to them.

In any event, I'd like to know what caused this pdf not to print correctly. That is, what caused the blue & green lines and why didn't the phone number print? At the very least, we can update our policies against corrupted files.

Thank you in advance.

Two Passwords Are Better Than One: The Low-Down On PDF Security

For people who don't spend their time looking at PDF files in text editors*, PDF security is a sometimes misunderstood beast.

For example, those document restrictions that PDF files sometimes have -- no Printing, Content Copying, Page Extraction, etc -- are essentially useless unless the PDF also has a User Password.
