Topic: Server-side PDF manipulation

Hoping someone can help me. I have two separate web projects I'm working on, both of which will require some manipulation of documents uploaded from a web page to the server.
First project would involve inspecting the PDF which is uploaded to make sure all fonts have been embedded in the PDF. If not, a message should be displayed to the user and the upload should not occur. Only PDFs which have all fonts embedded should be uploaded.
Second project would involve the conversion of a Word document to a PDF. The PDF would not be redistributed to the user, but stored in our imaging system.
I haven't tried to tackle the second item yet (conversion from Word to PDF), but have looked into a few tools for the embedded font issue. PDFspy didn't work for me when I put it on the server, not getting good response from their tech support so I need to move on to something else. I also looked into iTextSharp, but it appears that it will only list Type 1 and True Type fonts, I need it to report on any font that is used in the document.
Ideally, I'd like to find a single product that will do both tasks. Does anyone know of such a product? Open source is okay as long as it's reliable. Alternately, we're prepared to buy licenses if needed.
Thanks in advance!
