Although, no doubt Aandi is right about the distiller
compresion solution that he provided - I've had a
similar problem with various newspapers that I
was responsible for traffiking artwork to. The
problem I found was that 1 bit TIFF bitmaps were
analysed as being of image type 'Masked' in
Pitstop. And this - perhaps a bug in Acrobat -
reported an OPI path which pointed to the location
of the image on the design agency's mac! This
problem I solved by turning off the setting in job
options to 'Preserve OPI Comments' - since an
OPI workflow wasn't in practice between the
agencies and newspapers that I was dealing with.
This solved the problem of Bitmapped TIFFs
dropping out.
