Hello there,

I have been working with Acrobat now for the past 2 to 3 months and am having a lot of difficulty with something that should be relatively easy. My company has many black and white manuals that needed to be scanned and stored electronically for future use. That part was simple. But where I ran into a lot of problems came with the cleanup afterwards. Essentially this is the problem:

After the book is scanned, I am left with a pdf file that is 35-50 MB in size. Also, because the originals have the 3 hole punch on the side I have to remove them for future printing. So I capture the document to remove the dots and to shrink the overall size of the file from 35MB down to 5 or 6 MB. The problem is, the OCR function on Acrobat stinks and I am left with an awful copy of the original. Plus, it skews the page so that it is perpendicular to the corners and this messes up all of the graphics that are on the page as well. My lines will be shifted to the left or right and and the numbers and characters will be transposed with what Adobe "believes" them to be. i.e. 10 may become 1o or IO or iO.

There is an option to capture the page as original with hidden text and this works well with the overall "look" of the document but the size increases from huge to gigantic which really will not work in the long run or on a network.

So, if there are experts out there that can direct me in where I am going wrong, I would surely appreciate it. My operation requires that we scan somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 manuals and that they look sharp.

TIA, Mike
