When I convert a document to pdf by printing it to PDF writer, the resulting pdf document is slightly smaller than the original, and the margins are correspondingly bigger. This discrepancy occurs appears both in the screen image and on paper. For example in a Microsoft Word document on letter-size paper the printed area is 6.5 x 8 inches but the pdf document made from it measures only 5.5 x 7.25 inches. I am presently using an iBook and MacOS 9.1 but the problem occurs on other Macs and with other operating systems. And it occurs with documents produced by other applications too (e.g. PageMaker and AppleWorks.)
