With Acro 4.05, you can use javascript to access
the Doc Object Properties (see the Acrobat Forms
Javascript Specification under the Help Menu), but I
believe that you must have the pdf file open.

I don't know if Acrobat 5.0 or Acrobat Catalog have
any other ways to do what you want.
