Today I tried to open a PDF on a commercial website. It was quite large and took some time to download. However, once it had arrived, when I clicked on it I got a pop-up stating 'There was an error processing the page. A font contains a bad CMap/Encoding'. If I clicked OK, a further pop-up stated 'The file contains information not understood by the viewer. Suppress further errors? Yes/No'. Clicking Yes just gave me nine blank pages.
Since Windows Explorer indicates there is a 400KB file there, can anyone suggest what might be going on? I emailed the website and explained the problem I was having, in case it was at their end, and they replied promptly, saying it worked fine for them. They also attached a copy of the PDF. Same thing happened when I tried to open the attachment.
I have Reader V3 on my computer, as when I d/l V4, I had a number of problems - no idea why, but it totally screwed up my email. So I removed it and went back to V3.
Could the problem be that I am trying to open a PDF created in a newer version of the Reader that hasn't been 'backdated'?
