Start Word, and open the file in Word.
Look at the first line.
If it is a PDF file, you will see "%PDF" there.
If you DON'T see %PDF there it isn't a PDF file.
It doesn't matter what the icon is - Windows sets the Acrobat icon for any file called something.PDF, whatever is in it.
If you like, post the first 2 lines of the file here. We may be able to tell you what it actually is, since it isn't a PDF.
