Gonffen - Thanks, it made a BIG improvement in the result. Everything I've read says use Distiller for things with graphics which I assumed included shading and hash marks; a bad assumption it looks like. Can you explain this?

Now I have a new problem in getting the resolution set so that the product will differentiate between "Dark Vertical" and "Dark Up Diagonal" shadings. Those two are indistinguishable now (both on screen and printed). What book, guide, technical source describes the impacts of the properties settings for PDF Writer? (or Distiller also for that matter?)
