Mark,
Whether a field holds a dollar amount or a number of days, its value is still a number and can be used in a calculation. It is a field's formatting which makes that number APPEAR to be in dollars.

What actual fields do you have on your form?
Your description seemed to indicate that C was both the result of (A-B) [dollar amounts] AND a number of days...
