My information is a bit dated, but in Netscape/Mozilla, you have a
client side JavaScript function which checks for plug-ins.
This procedure does not work in IE because it uses ActiveX
components, and I am not aware of a method to find out if a specific
ActiveX component is around. However, I am not too familiar with
those ActiveX components, so that someone else may have better
information.
Hope, this can help.
