General group/project description:
My client provides technology to the print and pre-press industry (both high-end and middle market). Success here demands a reputation for robust, extensible and high performance software. By achieving this my client has secured a large share of its marketplace.
Their products provide interpretation and rendering of page description languages such as PostScript?, PDF?, and TIFF/IT, and delivering output to a multitude of industry and proprietary, file formats and printing devices. Available on many industry standard platforms, our technology is made available in toolkit form for developers to extend or integrate into their own projects.
The projects will involve porting of this technology onto embedded platform operating systems, such as VxWorks, interfacing to hardware and software subsystems on the target platform, and developing extensions to the software to meet functional and performance requirements.
We are seeking a dynamic Group Manager/Project Manager who is capable of managing and directing a team of seven (7) people and who is also able to skillfully manage a number of new embedded projects. From time to time the job will also entail an active involvement in specification, design and coding.
Principal responsibilities:
Providing focus and direction to the embedded software team in order to reach targets and customer requirements
Managing customer projects to ensure that the best quality products are delivered on time
Liason with customers, especially in Japan & the USA
From time to time involvement with specification writing, design and coding
Essential skills and experience:
A degree in computer science or equivalent
3-4 years C/C++ development
5-6 years experience managing software teams & projects within embedded environments
Knowledge and port experience of common platforms (Windows NT, Macintosh, UNIX/Linux)
Embedded systems knowledge (VxWorks in particular)
Desirable skills:
Knowledge of pre-press or electronic publishing systems
A critical eye for robust design and implementation
Experience of device driver development
