Ok, a rough idea can be obtained by looking for the image XObjects in the files, examining the BitsPerComponent and ColorSpace. The PDF format is, however, complex. Your next step would probably be to start examining it, especially sections 3.1,3.2,3.4,3.6,3.7,4.1-4.3,4.5 and 4.8.
