Topic: the best javascript editor?

anyone who's worked with other platforms knows how feeble adobe's js editor is for serious developing.

i've been limping along with wordpad (sometimes assisted by ms word, believe it or not) but have begun wondering, 'what would be the best editor to use with adobe acrobat?'

i've not had experience with external editors so am at a loss to make any judgements. i'd also hate to start researching from square zero. so please let's hear it from you...what external editor do you use? is it the best ever?

what do you recommend? (free would be nice but a modest fee for the editor would not be out of order.)
