If you have Distiller, you might find the best course to create a 'hello word' document in pdf and then take it apart. Enfocus have/had a nice little plug-in for looking at the internals of objects in a pdf file.
If you haven't got Distiller, drop me a line and I'll create a pdf for you, and send the word sample as well.
