FYI: Adobe Acrobat 4.05 Update
The Adobe Acrobat 4.05 Update fixes a small number of problems in Acrobat 4.0 that were discovered after its release. If you own Adobe Acrobat 4.0 for Macintosh or Windows, you're eligible to receive the Acroabt 4.05 Update free of charge.
Acrobat 4.05 Features and Revisions
- Acrobat with Web Buy
Web Buy is software that enables you to download encrypted content from the Web, such as eBooks and documents in PDF, and unlock it. This Adobe technology is a fully integrated component of Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader 4.05. You can download Acrobat Reader for free at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html. (Acrobat Reader 4.05 on CD-ROM will be released within 2 to 3 months.) Find out more about Web Buy at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/webbuy/main.html.
- Integration with Microsoft Office 2000 (Windows only)
Integration problems that caused PDFMaker 4.0 (the macro that automates PDF creation within Office applications) to hang have been corrected. Acrobat 4.05 is properly integrated with Office 2000, and enables you to automate the conversion of native Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents to PDF files.
- Proper JPEG Compression in PDF Files Created by Distiller
In Acrobat 4.0, Distiller's JPEG compression results are the same for High, Medium, and Low. Acrobat 4.05 corrects this problem so that in most cases the JPEG compression of images in PDF files is better than that achieved in Acrobat 3.0.
- Less Restrictive TrueType Font Embedding
To stay within the industry specification for TrueType fonts, Acrobat Distiller 4.05 no longer interprets out of specification flags as meaning non-embeddable. Acrobat Distiller 4.05 continues to read font embedding flags and honors properly specified restrictions on font embedding.
- Improved Web Browser Integration
Problems that prevented PDF files from being displayed properly in Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer browser windows have been corrected. In addition, Acrobat no longer crashes when you view PDF files embedded in HTML files.
- Improved Printing
Several problems with PostScript and PCL (i.e. non-PostScript) printing in which the printout was incorrect, no output was produced, or Acrobat crashed have been corrected.
- PDFMaker Support for all Windows NT User Privileges (Windows only)
PDFMaker now functions properly regardless of the user's Windows NT privileges. You no longer need to be logged in with Administrator privileges.
- Distiller Crashes and Color Management Fixed
Several problems that caused Distiller to crash have been corrected, as were problems that caused Distiller to embed incorrect ICC color profiles in PDF files.
- Printer Driver Updates
The newest Adobe PostScript printer drivers (Adobe PS 8.6 for Macintosh, Adobe PS 5.1.1 for Windows NT, and Adobe PS 4.3.1 for Windows 95/98) are integrated.
