If these materials are to be posted on the web, then you
should consider a PDF/Normal conversion, which would require
the use of the fulll-blown Acrobat Capture product. The
result is a PDF consisting of formatted text and graphics that
may be optimized to your application in terms of resolution,
compression, bit depth, etc.. PDF/Normal files are much
smaller than the files you are getting from the method you
mention.
