Mike,
As far as I can see, you are right. You will have your users to disable the
"download in the background" option. I don't see any hint of how to set
this behaviour via a JavaScript. Maybe in the future, one would have full
access to the preferences via JavaScript.
There should be no need to change any settings on the server side, however.
