Topic: Distiller being wrapped in an IIS COM

I have heard before that the Acrobat components, specifically distiller can not be used in any environment except a single threaded environment. I believe this is why when I try to instantiate the Distiller component in an ASP page as such:

Set objDist = Server.CreateObject("PdfDistiller.PdfDistiller")

that I get an error indicating that IIS was unable to instantiate the component.

So what I did was I wrapped the Distiller functionality into my own VB COM emulating all the normally available distiller calls. This COM simply passes the values passed to it on to an instantiated Distiller component. I built and tested and it seems to work fine without problems.

The question I have is this SAFE? In other words, I have I violated some kind of threading issue and if so will this COM have problems when used in a higher traffic production site. I know I can test the COM by stress testing and I plan to do that. But I would still appreciate any input in to this issue. If anyone is interested in obtaining the final COM when I have finished testing and everything I will gladly make it and the source code available who ever wants it. Thanks in advance for all replies.

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
