Topic: Javascript & 'Open cross-doc links in same window'

Hi, I'm very new to JavaScript and would appreciate some guidance.

I'd like to use the v4 only Application Object property "openInPlace" to set, at run-time the "Open cross-doc links in same window" option from the default single open doc to multiple open docs. In the AcroJS.PDF it describes the property type as "number" but gives no clue as to what the numbers for on & off might be or any syntax example.

I've figured out that when done, the JavaScript needs to be a document level script (Tools/Forms/Document JavaScripts...) but can anyone show me what I should put in the window?

Another fact the reference PDF glibly omits is whether the resultant change of state is effected immediately or on next using the app as is the case when changing the prefs via the apps menus at run-time. I want the JS to ensure that on opening my file, the pref is set to allow multiple open docs during the current session - which changing the pref via the menu cannot achieve.

As background, this has arises from numerous folk who have used my PDF primer on running Reader from a CD but find the default condition for Reader is 'single doc'. Running from CD, there is no prefs file as such - it writes to the users Registry (in Windows anyway) on first use and then stores the state there - though Adobe use an odd system for on/off states where on creates a flag and off removes the flag entirely (or vice versa) - not very intuitive behaviour. A 0/1 toggle of the flag would be much easier to follow - but then I'm just a user, not a programmer . Numerous folk have asked me for help but I'm stumped as although I see what is needed, I don't know JavaScript so I can't test a solution for them.

Anyone able to help?

P.S. My PDF on Reader on CD is in the tips section here at:

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
