Topic: PDF files in Netscape Enterprise Server log...

Hi,

We have about 20 PDF files on our homepage, and we would like to keep the static of all PDF files, like how many times each PDF file was opened each day. We found that the pdf files are recorded differently in Netscape Enterprise Server log with different version of browsers:

(When the file is opened successfully, return code should be 200.)

IE4:
3 lines of RC 200 will be recorded per opening (no matter the file is in cache or not).
Additional lines of RC 206 will also be recorded.

IE5:
When file is NOT in cache, record 1 line of RC 200, and additional lines of RC 206 will also be recorded.
When file is in cache, lines of RC 206 will be recorded, but NOT RC 200.

Netscape 4.7:
When file is NOT in cache, record 1 line of RC 200, no other information will be recorded.
When file is in cache, no information will be recorded unless clean up cache, not even RC 206 or 304.

I am not sure it's the problem with NES web server log, or just the way how different version of browsers send http request for pdf files. Have anybody seen this problem before? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Wilson
