Topic: PDFMaker and Word 97 automation problem

We are trying to automate the execution of PDFMaker via a VB program, but are experiencing Word 97 'not responding' when attempting to close Word. We are using Acrobat 4.05 and using the below summarized VB code to execute the PDFMaker macros:

Public objDoc As Word.Application ' start Word
Set objDoc = New Word.Application ' and create object

objDoc.Documents.Open "Word doc file to be opened"
objDoc.run "GetStoredSettings"
objDoc.run "DoPrintWithLinks"
objDoc.Documents.Close (wdDoNotSaveChanges)
' close document without saving

(we now loop back up to documents.open to load the next word document. After last one has been converted, we attempt to close Word with the following.)

objDoc.Quit

This is where we are experiencing Word 'not responding'. We even moved the closing of Word to a VBA macro, but still encounter the same problem. It does not happen when you first boot windows. It usually happens after converting to PDF several large (500 KB) Word documents, some with hundreds of URL links. When we terminate Word thru (ctrl-alt-delete) end task, the PDFMaker macro sometimes fails to work the next time we open Word. It eventually happens on all PC's we have tried this on.(Win95, Win98, NT).

Has anyone encountered this problem? Does anyone see anything wrong with any code we are using above? and does anyone know of a third party software solution that converts Word files to either Postscript or PDF while still retaining URL links?

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
