I have come across a new problem attempting to display a PDF in IE 4.x,5.x from a Java servlet. My servlet dynamically creates a FDF which is passed to the browser.
It appears the problem stems from the interaction of IE and our IIS (Internet Information Server) web servers. Netscape successfully displays the PDF. IE fails displaying the same PDF.
The same code is successful displaying the PDF when running in my IDE and running my local machine as the web server (both IE and Netscape). This was all accomplished by a suggestion in the topic "Displaying PDF/FDF in browser using Java Servlet". Thank you.
There was a performance issue retrieving the PDF from IE in my IDE so we migrated the code to a ISS version 4 web server on Windows NT 4 to see if the performance issue still existed. I've been working with our browser experts and it appears to be a problem with the packets being sent to IE from the ISS. Sniffers indicate the packets retrieved when requesting the servlet from IIS are different from those requested in Netscape.
The error appears when Adobe launches, "There was an error opening this document. The file does not exist." If I save the fdf to disk rather than opening it, it works. The above error happens using IE 5 and Adobe 4. IE 4 produces a downloading error.
Has anyone been down this path before? Any suggestions?
