You're probably better off visiting the folk at activePDF. They've put
considerable resources into solving this problem and have a low-cost toolkit
that you can install to do this. They support server-side conversion from
Word Doc to PDF without Word installed. I don't believe you get the
interactive features of PDF via this method (they have another option
utilizing Word that does provide this) -- but at the price it's worth
looking at seriously. See
