What are the arguments you pass newDoc()?

Try to do it again from the JavaScript console, and enter this line:

app.newDoc(nwidth, nheight) ;

where nwidth is the width of the page in points, and nheight its
height in points. This should open a new empty page for you.

Also read the security note in the Acrobat JavaScript Object Specification.

Hope, this can help.
