I looked at the file at
and it opened with no errors for me using Reader 4.05 on MacOS 8.6.

I took the liberty of looking through the file a bit using a text editor.
The error message you encountered, "Invalid Pattern," means just that:
there's an invalid pattern somewhere. I found quite a few patterns in your
file. One of them was a "tiled" pattern with a width of 925, but the
mediabox width for the page is only 612; possibly there is a version of
Reader out there that complains at this combo (although as I say mine did

If you keep seeing the error, I would suggest you start by getting rid of
the background patterns on the pages. That should eliminate the error
message. Then try composing pages WITH patterns again.
