Christian,

it might be only a rearrangement of the problem, but you would have to
follow the same rules as for PostScript.

You would have to calculate the width of the text of the line based on the
font metrics, and then adjust the word spaces accordingly.

You might check some of the available libraries, such as the pdflib by
Thomas Merz (http://www.pdflib.com).
