OK.

When you say the "Acrobat API", do you mean via a plugin or via
IAC/COM?

Correct. Acrobat only includes support for loading PDF's from the
native file system. Loading of PDF's from any other medium (ie. the web)
require writing and instantiating a custom Acrobat file system (ASFileSys).

IF you are writing a plugin, then you need to write a custom file
system. If you are working entirely in IAC, then you'll need to download
the file yourself BEFORE passing it to Acrobat.
