Barely ever. Providing search functions depends on the platform the
documents are stored, and that is beyond the reach of Acrobat for a
web server. Providing the search function depends on the kind and
configuration of the individual web server.
As opposed to that, when you have a file server environment (local
drive, CD-ROM), the platform is known to Acrobat, and it has all the
accesses it needs. Therefore, Acrobat can provide the search function.
