Why would you want that? Don't you think your user would be
confused/upset to suddenly have their printer start churning out
pages?

What if the current printer isn't the default one? I know I
switch printers from time to time and forget to restore it until I
start printing another document.

You could use the PDFL to print the PDF on the client
(assuming you could license it), BUT you'd still need SOMETHING on
the client. And that's the "rub" - no matter how you attack this
problem, you need SOME piece of code running on the client that kicks
of the print. That could be a plug-in, a Java applet or ?? - but
SOMETHING has to be local on the client!
