You are assuming that an ASPathName (which is the type of
variable you pass into PDDocOpen) is a C string (char*) consisting of
a platform-centric pathname - but it's NOT! If you look at the
declaration for ASPathName, it's a char* on Windows, but it's an
FSSpec on the Mac.

The Mac OS doesn't like pathnames - they're a REALLY BAD idea
on a non-rooted file system with variable named volumes (ie. if you
have two disks named "HD", which one does "HD:foo.pdf" point to?).
You need to work with FSSpec structures, a Mac-centric data structure
for working with file system objects.
