Richard-

I believe that the problem is caused by the fact that you are opening an
_FDF using DocOpen. The way the DDE functionality works is that when a
document is opened using DocOpen, it gets added to a list of documents that
can be manipulated with DDE. When you open an fdf what happens is that the
forms plug-in gets called to open the PDF and import the forms data. The
PDF that gets opened by this method isn't added to the doc list for DDE and
can't be manipulated with DDE. The fact that you can open an FDF with
DocOpen is actually unintended behavior.

I think you will have better luck using OLE where you can use AVDoc.Open,
ImportAnFDF, AVDoc.GetPDDoc and PDDoc.Save to accomplish what you want to do.
