Topic: setting a field value

I am trying to set the value of a field from another field's entered value from a different template.

I accessed the field properties of the field I want to set and click on the "Format" tab. I select "Custom" and click on the "Edit" button of the "Custom Format Script" box. Is this the correct approach? I enter the following code in the edit window:

var append = ("P" + this.pageNum + "." + "PremWkst.");
var append2 = ("Inf" + "." + "Agent.")
//the field I want to place the value into
var name = this.getField(append + "AgtName").value;
//the field I want to grab the value from
var agentName = this.getField(append2 + "Name").value;
//check to see if the agentName is populated (it is)
app.agentName);

name = agentName;

It compile OK but doesn't put the value agentName in name. Is there a different way to do this? Is there an error in my code?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.
