Topic: Validating input as a date

I have some date fields in a form and I want to check if the user has typed a valid date. I don't want the form to display a random date or todays date if the date is not accurate. When I use the standard format option, if I write a wrong date I get a warning and something I don't want as input( I want event.rc = false and a warning) . I tried to use some Javascript in the validate event, but I don't find an easy way ( as IsDate in Vbscript)to do it. Am I missing something?. I tried with util.scand and date.parse, but I get wrong values. Where could I find help?
