The format>date is part of the "traditional" method. The advantage of format>date method is that the errors are "corrected" automatically ("February 29, 1979" is converted to "March 1, 1979", etc.). The disadvantages are that (a) the "automatic correction" is not always "correct" (may be "February 29, 1979" is to be converted into "February 28, 1979", for example) and there are no alerts (except the beep) of any "correction" made; (b) the user must type the date into the field (that means time and "labor"); (c) the typed data is automatically converted into the date format according to program rules unknown to the user (so, the "final" date can be incorrect).
