Best not to scan-in to Acrobat 5.0 at all. Use Kodak Imaging or other simple software and scan it into a tiff document, despeckle/deskew and then print to to pdf using distiller, especially since you do not need ocr.
Otherwise you are likely to end up with a bloated file.
