Topic: how do they do that?

I just told a client we couldn't do something, and then my boss showed me a PDF that does it!

We use ActivePDF Toolkit and Cold Fusion to take some data from a database, fill in a PDF form, and present it to the user on our website. The user then checks/changes the field values and prints the form.

Our client wanted some of the fields required, so that they couldn't print unless those fields were filled in. I told her we couldn't do that. Then later my boss showed me, which has some interesting features:
1 An alert that pops on leaving a field, if it's not filled out properly.
2 A button to print the form, inside the form itself.

I tried to download this PDF, so I could see the code behind the controls, but to my surprise

3 The Save and Save As... buttons are grayed out in the browser.

So how are these things done? Using JavaScript? What if the user has JavaScript turned off?

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
