On Windows, open the first file in Acrobat. Then, select the other files in Windows and drag them onto the window of the first file in Acrobat.
The pages are inserted in whatever secret order Windows decides to keep them in. This is NOT the order that you select them in. This is NOT chronological order by modification or creation date. This is NOT alphabetical order.
However, on my Windows NT machine with Acrobat 5.05, found that if I used the Windows menu View->Arrange Icons, that this seemed to affect whatever order the pages were inserted in.
Or, you could buy ARTS Split and Merge Wizard, which has a great interface to easily control how all of the files get inserted.
