Topic: Force printing in landscape orientation?

I've seen the Adobe technical notes about /AutoRotatePages and I don't think this will solve the problem I'm having:
I have documents (perfect-bind book covers) distilled in landscape orientation which must print in landscape orientation on a landscape sheet regardless of whether they will fit on the sheet the other way (paper grain issues). The sheet I print on is large enough that some of the documents are automagically printing rotated 90 degrees, despite the fact that I specify "Landscape" in the Print Setup dialog. Picture a large sheet of paper, hold it in landscape mode, and think of a small wraparound book cover laid flat. It is wrong to be rotated 90 degrees from your face merely because it happened to fit - it should be facing you directly, its horizontal aspect oriented to the sheet's. I've seen this happen on two different brands of color printer, so I think it may be an Acrobat DLL or PPD issue. The lousy temporary solution has been to rotate the page 90 degrees within Acrobat, and that is the only way I've managed to get it to print properly. It resists all other remedies.
I do the printing programmatically, so I can set all standard DEVMODE values; for compatibility, I do not want to depend on any printer-specific settings.
