Hello. This is my first post, so please bear with me and I apologize in
advance if there are any breaches of etiquette. I cross-posted this to
the PDFzone.com lists as well, so please ignore if you are on both lists.
I work for a company that serves a confidential client that sells
documents in PDF format. Their concern is that after someone purchases a
PDF and downloads it to their machine, that customer can then forward
the document to others or resell it or otherwise make it freely
available. I have looked into the security options available both from
Adobe and for third-party developers and have not come up with any
solutions. The closest I've found is the Adobe Document Server, but that
requires using their eBook Reader software. The client does not want
their customers to be required to use any software other than the PDF
Readers they currently use.
I have downloaded the Acrobat SDK so we may wind up just trying to
develop a plug-in for this, but it strikes me that someone must already
have delved into this issue one way or another. I'd appreciate any
insight you all can offer.
