Topic: Very PDF confused... (Via Email)

Hello,

I've been reading tons of messages in the forums related to PDF's, FDF's,
images and ASP trying to find one that will help me get where I need to be.
So far I've only gotten more confused.

Here's what I am hoping to achieve:
I have written an application for our users to store data and images in SQL.
When they click some link I want to pull the data and the image(s) back out
of SQL (using ASP) and have the data come back to them in their browser as a
read-only PDF....from there maybe they could save it locally or email it on
to their clients.

Here's what I've done so far:
I've created a PDF from an image I had (8 1/2 x 11 white paper w/ our
company logo) in Photoshop. On that PDF I used Adobe 5.0 to add a few test
form fields. I created a test ASP page that when called, succesfully
populates data to those form fields (text-only so far) using the FDF toolkit
ActiveX dll. I then found out that in order to get images onto the PDF I
had to have the image as a PDF. When I did that, and added a button field
on my original document, it worked. What came to my browser was the
original PDF populated with the data and PDf image. Not my ideal solution
because I had to manually create all of the form fields and manually convert
the JPEG to PDF prior to seeing any results.

Here are my questions:
1 - Can text form fields be dynamically added and populated via ASP? If so,
how?

2 - I may or may not always have an image to display, so can button form
fields be dynamically added and populated via ASP? If so, how?

3 - Is the JPEG -> PDF conversion the ONLY way to get the button populated
w/ the image? Can I do this via Adobe 5.0 tools or will this require
something like activePDF (pro version)?

4 - The amount of data coming from the database is not always the same.
Will the PDF expand to another pages if you just keep adding data & form
fields as if there was only one page?

5 - Am I approaching this project the right way or am I way out in left
field on this one?

Any advise here is GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you,
Dana

Adding a PDF Stamp Comment

OK, so you want to stamp your document. Maybe you need to give reviewers some advice about the document's status or sensitivity. This tip from author Ted Padova demonstrates how to add stamps with the Stamp Tool along with related comments.
