Topic: XFDF - Passing Paramaters To A PDF Form (BUG??)

Hello,

For the past few days I have been developing a simple PDF form (to be displayed on the web) that contains several dynamic form fields that are read only - however these fields will be passed in from a CGI script. I developed the CGI script and it successfully passes in the required parameters using XML (XFDF). However there is a strange side effect... When the CGI script generates the XML page that causes the PDF file the following events occur:

Please note I am using Microsoft XP, and I am using Acrobat writer 5 / reader 5.1.

1. Abobe Acrobat loads into a new window.

2. When Adobe completes loading the web-browser then displays
the PDF file containing the passed in parameters.

3. Adobe Acrobat remains open - hence a new window is available.

Basically I dont want Adobe Acrobat to remain open. The interesting thing is that when I create a simple hyper link (i.e. ) the Adobe Acrobat window does not remain open, infact it doesnt even appear in a new window. Therefore I can only conlclude that when using XFDF to pass in parameters the adobe acrobat window remains open - however is this normal?

The hyperlink provided below will take you to a test page that shows the XFDF source code and a simple form that allows you to pass in a parameter into my PDF document - note: the form submit button will pass your parameter to my CGI script which will generate the XML/XFDF output thus resulting in the PDF form being displayed. The link is as follows:

http://www.grubweb.com/tmp/

I would be *exceptionally* grateful if anyone could contact me explaining how to prevent the Adobe Acrobat application from appearing, or how to make the application close once the form has been displayed.

If you require any additional information please contact.

Thanks in advance.
