What improvements for Linking to PDFs are planned for Acrobat 6?
Making links (or hyperlinks) from documents to PDFs has seemed to be a jumble of inconsistencies or missing features. Opening a PDF at a page or named destination is not available from FrameMaker or MS Word. When the Frame/Word documents are converted to PDF, methods are available (at a price for plugins) to use Postscript fields (Frame) or Print fields (Word, with link placement requiring a guess at converted page coordinates), but of course these distiller-inserted links don't work in Frame/Word before conversion. Some links destinations work via HTTP (e.g., the "#destination), but not via a file open.
It would seem that some big inter-application communication and link standardization improvements are in order. Given that PDFs aren't to be "authored" in Acrobat, and that adding interactive links in Acrobat after conversion is error prone and very time consuming, hopefully, there are some new features for this in v6.
