You're not the only one with eBook problems. In fact I know of quite a few customers I've talked to today who have the same opinion of Acrobat 6.
My job consists of managing an Adobe Content Server and distrubuting thousands of eBooks in various formats. Most of our best sellers are the 10 hour versions of our code books. Students seem to buy these like crazy to cram for tests.
Now it seems that Acrobat 6 converts their 10 hour files into worthless garbage. In fact it will convert all the other eBooks we produce EXCEPT eBooks with some kind of timer set on them.
I begged and pleaded with Adobe to give me a beta so that I could test things prior to the release. I asked them nicely just to let me know what to expect. They gave me nothing to work with, and no answers. Then they released 6 right after Memorial Day (no notice) and expected me to deal with some very angry customers. I called their support line and tried to address the problems. They gave me a 48 hour time frame for a return call. I have not received a call in 4 days.
Acrobat 6 could potentially be the end of most of my business, as the 10 hour books sell much better than their unlimited counterparts.
So not only are they causing trouble with their end users, but their resellers and corporate customers too!
I'd give you my personal opinion but it would only contain curses, threats and something about Microsoft.
